Mission Statement

The mission of the Emergency Management office is to plan for the prevention of, mitigation of, preparation for, response to, and recovery from any disaster situation.  The County Coordinator is responsible for the training of local coordinators, and the training for Emergency Service personnel of which is held every October. The 9-1-1 section of the office is responsible for answering all emergency calls in Elk and Cameron County and dispatching emergency units.  Each dispatcher is certified to provide instructions to the caller until emergency services arrive.  The 9-1-1 section is also responsible for answering after hours calls for Probation, Children & Youth, CAPSEA, Human Services (protection from elderly abuse) and the District Justices.

Facts regarding Elk County Emergency Management:

In 2008, Elk County Emergency Management received 33,641 administrative calls and 11,641 9-1-1 calls for emergencies. The average length of each 9-1-1 call was approximately 3 minutes. The average annual cost of operating the 911 Center is $743,000 from the general fund for operating expenditures and an additional $620,000 from a separate account to cover the costs of wireless and landline costs.
