On a cold April 18th, 2018; Elk County celebrated its 175th Anniversary as a County.  Commissioners Matt Quesenberry, Jan Kemmer, and Dan Freeburg spoke about the significance of this anniversary; the formation of the County which was carved out from neighboring Counties; and the history of the beautiful trees that surround our Courthouse campus.  The Tambine Future Farmers of America (FFA) from the Johnsonburg High School then planted a new Sugar Maple tree in the Courthouse lawn to commemorate the anniversary.  Everyone was invited into the Annex Building to celebrate with cake an coffee.  Here are a few photos including the program that was distributed during the ceremony.

Today, April 11, the first of two trees on the Elk County Courthouse property was taken down.  During the past year an arborist was engaged to evaluate the health of all of the trees surrounding the Elk County Courthouse; Prison; and Annex buildings.  Several trees were identified as needing to be replaced.  The County Commissioners decided to replace 2 trees this year and 2 in the future; staggering the replacement so that trees are not all of the same age.  On April 18th, two new trees will be dedicated in honor of Elk County's 175th anniversary - one tree in front of the Courthouse and another in front of the Annex.
