My Property Appears On The Tax Upset Sale List, Now What???

The 2018 Elk County Tax Upset Sale listing is available on the Tax Claim Bureau section of the Elk County website and was published in the Ridgway Record and St. Marys Daily Press on Friday, August 10, 2018 is for those taxpayers owing 2016 taxes and prior.  The amount shown in that advertisement is the approximate bid price should be the property go to sale, this amount is the total of all taxes including current year taxes. 

To be removed from the Upset Sale, you may either

  • Make payment of the 2016 taxes and prior in full or
  • Enter into an agreement by coming into the Tax Claim Office and speaking with an employee for the amounts and rules. An agreement requires the owner to pay 25% down and a $15.00 agreement fee, the remaining amount is split into monthly payments which will run through April 30th of the following year.  If a taxpayer misses two consecutive payments the agreement goes into default and the Tax Claim Bureau will not be able to do another agreement with you for 3 years. 

Taxpayers may also make payments online or check their balances by logging into .  PLEASE NOTE: this website will not be available for making payments one week prior to the sale. 

Any properties still owing 2016 and prior taxes as of September 19, 2018 will be exposed for sale at the Tax Upset Sale on September 19, 2018 at 10:00am.

Spring 2018 Act 13 Scholarships Awarded

At the July 3, 2018 Elk County Commissioners meeting, the recipients of the 2018 Act 13 Scholarships were announced.  This year's recipients are Renee Catalano, a senior Chemical Engineering major at the Pennsylvania State University; and Colby Hefright, a freshman Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering major at Slippery Rock University.  Pictured here are the Elk County Commissioners, the scholarship recipients, and their parents.  Congratulations Renee and Colby !!

Operation Elk County Seeking Your Assistance

Operation Elk County is seeking to speak directly with individuals and families who have lost a loved one to either incidents involving alcohol, in particular family members who lost a love one due to an alcohol related motor vehicle crash, or with individuals and families who have lost a loved one to controlled substance use, in particular family members who have lost a loved one due to a drug overdose.   The purpose of Operation Elk County reaching out to individuals and families who are survivors is to receive their valuable input and perspective in developing programs that effectively communicate the foreseeable and unforeseeable consequences of individuals engaging in the consumption of alcohol and operating a motor vehicle as well as using controlled substances.    Operation Elk County intends to develop two focus groups; one for alcohol related incident survivors and another for controlled substance use survivors to listen, understand and develop effective strategies to prevent individuals from engaging in such behaviors as well as preventing future loss of lives.

Elk County Prison receives OUTSTANDING inspection results

A recent inspection of the Elk County Prison resulted in a report of full compliance in accordance with statewide correctional facility standards.  Many thanks to the prison administration, prison staff, and our Elk County maintenance staff for their outstanding efforts.
